Flappy Bird – Pipes

In the previous lectures of our Flappy Bird tutorial we have added the background, the bird, the gravity and the touch function. So our bird can fall down, and fly back to the air.

In this lessons we are going to add the pipes, what we have keep off from the way of our bird. We will have a top and a bottom pipe. Between them there is a gap, where the bird has to fly. Of course horizontally there is also a distance.

The closer are the pipes to each other the harder going to be our Flappy Bird game.

Flappy Bird – The gravity and the touch

In the very last lessons in our Flappy Bird tutorial we have learned how to have a flapping bird, and a static background which is fill out the whole screen.

In this lesson we are going to learn how to get the flappy bird interacting with us. It means that the bird has got a very simple control mechanism. What we need to do is just touch the screen, doesn’t matter where, and then the flappy bird going to start flying up against the gravity … and fall down, if we don’t touch again the screen ๐Ÿ˜‰

So how do we get a tap to be detected? Actually it is very straightforward.

In this tutorial we will learn how to create the very popular game, the Flappy Bird for Android in Kotlin.

Flappy Bird is a mobile game developed by Vietnamese video game artist and programmer Dong Nguyen, under his game development company dotGears.

The game is a side-scroller where the player controls a bird, attempting to fly between columns of green pipes without hitting them.

Nguyen created the game over the period of several days, using a bird protagonist that he had designed for a cancelled game in 2012.
